Okay, welcome everybody to the HireMyVA Team and Business Building Podcast, brought to you by Yoogozi.com. and in this podcast and at HireMyVA, we help you to reclaim your freedom through hiring and thriving with virtual assistants without breaking the bank- and that means your bank! I’m Dave Braun, and as usual, I’m here with my good buddy friend, Larry.

Larry Broughton
00:00:26
Hello, handsome, Dave.

Dave Braun
00:00:27
Hey, how you doing?

Larry Broughton
00:00:29
Good. Hey, we’re about to do two. part

Dave Braun
00:00:31
Yeah, we just got done with part one, we needed to break it up and ourselves take a rest.

Larry Broughton
00:00:39
Yeah. What are we talking about, Dave?

Dave Braun
00:00:40
Well, we’re talking about what are the top lessons you learned in 2021. We’re recording this at the end, very end of 2021 but you guys will be listening to this in 2022 and beyond because these lessons are timeless, right?

Larry Broughton
00:00:55
Yeah. And I’m going to just encourage folks as much as I want you to stick around and watch this right from now all the way to the end. You’re going to get a lot more out of this yet. If you actually go back and listen to part one, which is episode 113, I think that’s right, Dave, because what we’re really talking about here is goal setting for 2022. It’s very difficult to set goals if you don’t at least glance into the rear view mirror first, how did the past year go for me? What did I do Right? What did I do wrong? How can I improve my future? And you know, just improved life moving forward. So that’s why we want you to go back and look at the episode 113 part one of this first, but we’re using our whole health spider graph as a guide on this.

Larry Broughton
00:01:41
So Larry, what the hell? The whole health spider graph. I’m not going to tell you what it is. If you’ve been in the victory program or the HireMyVA program, you’ve been through a coaching program with us, you know what it is, it’s a very powerful tool, but we just measure our life’s effectiveness and pleasure and harmony and all that kind of stuff on a scale of one to 10 on eight different spans. And so far we’ve talked about the physical, financial and professionals and moving forward, Dave, I think we’re going to hit the other five now on this podcast, right?

Dave Braun
00:02:15
Okay, so where do you wanna start?

Larry Broughton
00:02:16
Well, let’s go ahead and just start with the next one, which is leisure and fun. what have you learned in 2021 and leisure and fun and what are you gonna do in 2022?

Dave Braun
00:02:25
Well, leisure and fun for me. It kind of spills over into the different areas, physical as well, physical and spiritual and stuff. Really, one of the things that I’ve learned is may, especially recently, is I’ve got to position myself to take more time off. Because Larry, we take time off. We have a timeshare some weeks at a time share we’d go. Yeah. But a lot of times I end up working during it. I, and I like work, but it needs to, it needs to, I need to take care of myself in that way, having more leisure time off. And I think, you know, for us who are high achievers, we got our computer next to us all the time. We want to be on it, we almost have to design ways so that we can’t have our computer with us. Let me give you an example.

Dave Braun
00:03:15
Just last week, we’re getting solar at our house. And just last week, I think I talked to the about this in our Q and A, part of our victory and HireMyVA community, our Q and A that we did for about an hour or so, where we answer all of your questions. We do that once a month if you’re in our program, it’s a powerful time we learned from each other. But one of the things that I realized, and it was so helpful mentally it’s kinda spills over, but I had kind of like a fun time taking almost a whole day off in the middle of the week because we had our power out there getting solar. And so that helped me not only mentally, but I actually had fun doing stuff around the house, relaxing, you know, working with my hands was really, really good. It was very refreshing. And I think for those of us, and I learned this from Jordan Raynor’s book, Redeeming Your Time for those of us who want to get that break, a leisure break, it’s not about doing the same things that we’re doing when we are working. In other words, if we, if we work with our mind, most of the time in a knowledge-based industry, we need to take those breaks, have that leisure time with our hands. That’s right!  And then vice-versa.

Larry Broughton
00:04:33
Yeah. Well, it’s a great TFTR my friends. And that’s what a lot of this, the episode prior to this and it’s episode is going to be, that is thanks for the reminder, Dave, speaking of TFTRs, if someone’s listening to this and they want to be part of that monthly Q and A, is there a way that they could do that, Dave?

Dave Braun
00:04:51
Yep. All you have to do is just contact us and we will send the, the link to you.

Larry Broughton
00:04:57
Yeah. There’s a fee. Yeah, yeah,

Dave Braun
00:05:00
Yeah, yeah. And I can’t say how much it is because we continually raise it as we get more people in. So if you hear about this and you want to get in, let us know and do it now versus later. Yeah.

Larry Broughton
00:05:12
So you can DM us or reach out to us through the comment section here. For me for the leisure and fun thing is, I guess what I’ve got to do is, is say this first of all, do as I say, not as I do.

Larry Broughton
00:05:28
As my father used to tell me that all the time do as I say, not as I do. I’ve not taken a vacation in over two years. I’ve been busting my hump. I’ve been where I’ve worked harder in the last two years. I should say more hours in the last few years than I ever had in my career. And, but I, and I’ve got some physical stuff going on, which I think has to do a lot with them, just not taking care of my body right now. So I am committed, so that’s my lesson in 2021, you know, the hammer fell on me last week.  They know about this, that, you know, I still think of myself as a physical specimen. I was when I was 25 and I’m not, I’m not, you know, and, and so I can’t continue to abuse my body.

Larry Broughton
00:06:19
Like I have, by not getting the sleep I need. I was doing pretty good a year ago by fell off that wagon. I remember it was late January of last year, the, the fourth quarter of 2019. Is that what it was? I don’t remember. I was really good. I’d gotten in really good shape and dropped weight. I was sleeping a good amount. And then just the past year has gotten me rocked again. So I’m recommitting to getting, taking time off this year. I’ve already got a couple of things in my calendar and to take some extended periods of time off during 2022, so leisure and fun. And the good thing is my friends, I know this, but I just don’t do it. You, because I’ve had so many times in my life when I take time off and very likely if you’re like most of the other people that Dave and I work with, when you take time off, you come back more refreshed.

Larry Broughton
00:07:22
Okay. You come back, it’s more of a joy to work with you, you come back more creative, you have more ideas. And yeah, it’s just really important to get some leisure and fun time and it doesn’t just mean taking vacation. It might mean for me, one of the things that I really enjoy doing is taking my dog to the beach. I love being there. I find power and strength, particularly in places like Santa Barbara in Orange County, you know, where you’ve got mountains in the background and you’ve got the water right there. There’s power, you know, in, in that for me. And, and so I need to do that, that type of things like that. More often, I’ve got plenty of friends who said, Hey, let’s go to the beach and you know, just hang out for a little bit and I blow them off. So I’m committing to doing more of that during, during the coming year.

Dave Braun
00:08:13
Yeah. And I think that leisure and fun, that’s gotta be something that will refresh you that will, when you’re coming back from that, that will be like, oh, I had such a great time. Now it’s time to get into my business, but you are refreshed so often we will do this leisure and fun time. And we are, we just go like crazy. And when we’re done with our vacation where mentally and physically exhausted, and that’s maybe not the right way to do it.

Larry Broughton
00:08:38
Well, the mistake that I made is that one of the things I used to do pre pandemic is, you know, the kids used to love going to go into the theater, going to the Pantageous up in LA or a Seagram’s to see, you know, or anything like that, or to go to live music events. And when all that was shut down, as soon as I admit it I didn’t find anything to replace those kinds of things. I just worked. I just go there with work, you know, and shame on me for that. But that’s the lesson I learned. And I won’t, I will not repeat that in 2022.

Dave Braun
00:09:11
So that’s one of the things that we have learned. I think about 2021 is when it comes to leisure and fun, we saw,

Larry Broughton
00:09:24
Yes, we do suck. All right. Let’s shift gears here, leisure and fund the next one. I think I’ve got a lot on this one, Dave. I’m going to have you go first, mental health. What’d you learn in 2021 and what are you gonna try to do for 2022?

Dave Braun
00:09:41
Well, one of the things that I began implementing, and I touched on this a little bit in the previous podcast, the previous episode, again, go back and listen to that with regard to my physical health and my neck and disc bulging and all that kind of stuff. You know, I discovered that I’m able to do what I call habit stacking. Actually, a friend of mine calls this he’s my financial advisor at Wes Roland, he’s awesome. But he calls it habit stacking. So what I’m doing is I exercise while I listening to a podcast or an audio book. So I kind of get, I feed my learning strength while I’m taking care of myself, physically and Larry, so often when I come out in my exercise, I’m like, oh my gosh, I got so many ideas. I got thoughts. I’m so mentally excited for the day.

Dave Braun
01:10:32
And, and so that has really helped me another thing mentally. And I guess it does spill over into professional is I’ve, you know, my mom does audio books cause she has, she can’t really read anymore. And audio books has been a lifesaver for her. And so then I’ve started to get, do some audio books. And what I’m doing is I’m doing audio books of books that I’m actually reading physically at the same time. So that way I can absorb that information better, and it sticks with me longer and I learned the lessons in a more powerful way. So like I did that with I’m on my third book where I’m doing that right now. And I’m really enjoying that. And you know, the other thing I wanted to say too, is that one of the things I’m finding in some podcasts and you gotta be careful is there’s and we talked about this, there can be a lot of fluff in the podcasts. And that’s when we, when things we try to do in our podcast is try to keep that to a minimum. So we give you guys good nuggets continually.

Larry Broughton
01:11:33
Yeah. There’s a little, there’s some banter and joking around in that kind of thing. But yeah, the intention here is to really give you some, some value. Yeah.

Dave Braun
01:11:42
And I got one more thing, but I’ll let you go.

Larry Broughton
01:11:46
Well, I don’t know if I go ahead, go ahead.

Dave Braun
01:11:48
Well, this is related to, and I realized that when you were talking about waiting and all this time with the doctor, right? So we had, Cheryl and I, and our family. We had a primary care physician who we just loved him for 30 years and he retired last spring. Yeah. So we had to find somebody new, well, somebody new, they’ve got a newer system on how to check in and all that kind of stuff. When we found that this guy is he’s, he’s great, he’s sharp. He’s on time. We’ve had the way very, very little, we’re communicating a lot through one of the health portals and it’s been, it’s been good. It’s been good. So I think the thing for, for me mentally, that was another good lesson. That realization is change is happening so fast all the time around us. You know, now, for example, we’re kind of like back the word masks temporarily. And so we just got to embrace change, or at least, you know, not let it take us away from our goals and what we want to accomplish. And, but that is a mental decision. And so that, that was just a good example reminding me that even though you may lose something now, if you mentally embrace that and look for the next best thing, it will come.

Larry Broughton
01:13:05
That’s good. That’s good. Thank you, Dave. I’ve got so many. I actually write a less, I jotted them down here on this post-it thing here. Well, first thing I’ve written down here, but it’s just top of mind for me is stop lying to yourself. Larry, stop lying to yourself. Okay. I think that lying to ourselves is even worse than lying to other people because you get to the point where you stop trusting yourself, you stop trusting your instincts. I believe that our instinct is really the universe, God speaking to us. But when we fill our brain with lies and we don’t know what’s truth or lies anymore, okay, stop blaming yourself. But reality is different. How do we have accountability partners ask yourself, you go through a list of questions. Is this real? What I’m seeing right now? We’re feeling right now.

Larry Broughton
01:13:59
Am I really in danger right now? Or is this just perceived? Because we are fixed with fight or flight thing that happens in our brains. But you know, Dave, one of my mantras is reality is your friend. And so you have to slow down. You have to pause, okay, is this real right? But also when you have friends and allies, and hopefully you have some of those folks that are the same, like you, Dave, I would consider both a friend and an ally is that you’re going to tell me the truth, whether I like it or not. Right? Why? Because it’s not just good for me, but it’s good for our relationship. It’s good for our business relationship. If you tell me the truth, there are some people who are friends who don’t really tell you the truth, because they don’t want to hurt your feelings. They don’t want to disrupt the boat. They want to have their drinking partner or whatever it is. We can’t, we can’t lie to ourselves. Okay. And you find that when you stop lying to yourself, you stop lying to other people. Okay. How freeing would it be for you if you stopped lying?

Larry Broughton
01:15:05
I know that’s, that’s a, that’s a big one for a lot of people. I said this earlier in one(part 1), but this is the big one. Stop comparing yourself to others and stop living in the past. These are the wealth mind, mental freedom. Okay. Two things, suck your joy living in the past and comparing yourself to others. And I find myself doing that during the pandemic. You know, how come they are, Whatever doing well, how come they’re growing. But then what I learned, it’s very, I’ll give you a quick example. There was a hotel management company that it looked like they were doing so well during the pandemic. And I was talking to Derek, our business development guy about this. And then just like a week ago, I got a flyer at that management company is for sale. And it was a, when the things go for sale, you get to see their balance sheet and how they’ve done – Whoa, I thought we got crushed.

Larry Broughton
01:15:56
They got crushed, but they had better smoke and mirrors. Now they’re painting a better picture to the worlds. Right? Cause they were probably thinking that this thing is going to be over in months Exactly. Like we all did. Right. So it was very interesting. So stop comparing yourselves, you know, in the recovery community, we talk about don’t compare your insides to other people’s outsides, right? You can’t tell what’s really going on with them. And that just proved the point. I thought they were doing so good by the PR push that they, they were doing, but it was all smoke and mirrors. And losing tons and tons of money. So don’t compare yourself. Another thing I realized that really what I think it’s given me some, a level of optimism is that really this, everybody was using this term about a year ago, Dave, the new normal, my friends, normal doesn’t exist. We are always in a constant state of flux. Change happens all the time. Okay. So we have to just embrace that, you know, normal doesn’t exist.

Larry Broughton
01:17:01
Reinforce, I said this last year, I’m gonna say it again. That gratitude and anxiety can’t live in the same space at the same time. I really embrace this. The spirit of gratitude in my life. These agents, I, I, my goal is to continue that forward, moving forward. And one of the mantras that I had developed early on in the pandemic that I continue to remind myself, I’m going to continue this for the rest of my life. It did offer great, please. My friends offer grace patience, patience and forgiveness freely and often. Yeah. It’s a writer downer. Yeah. Offer grace patience and forgiveness freely and often. Okay. Now that doesn’t mean that you allow people to run you over. It does mean that you have to set from time to time. Okay. If you offer grace patient patience and forgiveness, and the person starts to take advantage of you, then you need to cut them out of your life either personally or professionally, whatever the thing is. But power comes from that. Okay. But everyone’s hurting, you know, and sometimes I I’ve seen this, that people do desperate things when they’re, when they’re hurting that they wouldn’t normally do. Okay. Me too. I do it too. Right. We all, we all do. So those are some of the mental things that I’m I’m dealing with right now. And I I’m confident that 2022 is going to be a breakthrough year because of the awakenings and commitments that I’ve made to myself in those areas.

Dave Braun
01:18:34
Larry given what’s happened in your industry and it’s coming up to two years since the whole thing started and you’re still here, it’s, it’s a Testament to tenacity, fortitude positivity. and

Larry Broughton
01:18:48
Well, Dave, you’re one of my closest friends, if not my closest friend. And, and you’ve heard this right, how many times have I said, I got 90 days

Dave Braun
01:18:59
Over and over.

Larry Broughton
01:19:01
And it looks like great things are about to break through here and keep our fingers crossed that happens. I’m looking forward to making an announcement here in the next month. Hopefully speaking of praying, the next span on our whole health spider graph is a spiritual there, anything in the spiritual life that you’ve learned, a lesson you learned in 2021 or a challenge, I mean, or a goal that you want to have in 2022.

Dave Braun
01:19:31
Yeah, I think it was so as you know, and I, I try to keep it kinda low key, but I go into some of the local jails and do services, Protestant services. And that has been very interesting because we were closed down for over a year, just opened back up a few months ago and it’s kinda wreaked havoc on the ministry for a bunch of reasons. And it has been, oh my God, it’s been so eye-opening into the nature of people. How, when we talk about embracing change, how many people haven’t been able to embrace change, because things are very different and they get upset and, and they can’t. So we’re navigating a bunch of waters we’re trying to bring. So one of the things that happened is the leader. One of the major leaders in this ministry, who’s been working in it for like 30, 40 years passed away.

Dave Braun
02:20:35
And he was working in the ministry till the very end. And so there was some scrambling that we had to do to get a bunch of information. And one of the things that I think we realized is you weave and I think the best churches do this is they balance appropriately the spiritual with running it as a business – the organization as a business. Sure, sure. Right. And, and that’s what we are working towards, I think, because that will maximize the spiritual resources for us. I mean, you look at like, I go to Mariners and what they do is just amazing from a, from a business perspective and an organization perspective, because there’s so many things you want to do in a nonprofit that is, you know, that you do in a normal business. And so, so I think that’s one of the things that there’s just been so many weird things that have happened, you know, COVID and proof of vaccinations and tests and all that stuff, to be able to even go into the jails. And it’s been tough. It really has been tough. So we’re having to navigate these waters and the waters are changing quickly and we’ve got to watch ourselves to not get burned out if that makes sense.

Larry Broughton
02:21:58
Yeah, for sure. For sure. Good. For me, it’s another TFTR and a couple of the lessons that I was just reminded of in 2021 is love first. How about that? Just love, love, love, love, love, love first, you know, we’ve got this tribal talks or toxic tribalism in this country. And I think it’s actually around the world at this point that people forget that you can, two things can be right at the same time. We have forgotten that in the world. So, so there’s that. And also that compassion and understanding go a really long way. I forget who said it, that I, the first time I’d heard it about seek understanding and then to be understood.

Dave Braun
02:22:49
Yeah. Seek to understand and then to be understood. Yep. You got it- Steve Covey.

Larry Broughton
02:22:54
Yeah, it was Covey, wasn’t it? Yes. And so I think that’s just a good spiritual thing as mantra as well. I’m not going to judge people based on what their spiritual beliefs are or not. I’m just going to love people, you know, and to me, the spiritual stuff is not just about who do I worship on a specific day of the week. You know, I’m a big believer that we’re all spiritual beings, you know, and we have been connected in the past and we’re going to be connected into the, in the future. And so in order to live with one another, we have to forgive ourselves and be kind to other people and forgive them too. And it seems to me like the world, our businesses would be a better place if we all, all did that. And kind of finally is that what I’ve had to accept that although 2022 will be a year where you’re going to laugh at this Dave, but I’m actually going to lean into a love relationship or seek one. You know, I have not done that in a long time for a variety of reasons, but alone behavioral a lot. I hear people say this, but aren’t you lonely, Larry? you know, alone does not equal lonely. Okay. And so I’m making the choice, you know, and that’s a spiritual thing, right. For me anyway, because to me, future love relationships, there’s gotta be a spiritual connection, right. As well. Exactly. So that’s what I learned in 2021. And what I plan on doing in 2022.

Dave Braun
02:24:37
Sounds good. Sounds good. All right. So go ahead.

Larry Broughton
02:24:41
I think the next section is family. Alright, anything. Oh, Dave, you’ve had to change in 2021. All right. So what’d you learn in the family area? I mean, the look on your face right now.

Dave Braun
02:24:56
Well, so, so this is one thing, if any of you have had kids, and then if you go to the next level and get lucky enough to have grandkids, one of the things Larry, this goes back to what you talked about with love. So often it seems like we, or we think we’ve only got so much amount of love inside of us, but it’s infinite, you know, because we’re created in the image of God and his, and his love is infinite for us. So we can, you know, we can love and have more and more and more and more love. And so had have a new grandson, born in October and his name’s Logan Joseph, he’s doing well. So, you know, it’s like, you know, Cheryl and I have a great relationship, but I know who’s more important now. Grandpa, baby. the me give whatever,

Larry Broughton
02:25:53
Give me the baby.

Dave Braun
02:25:55
Oh my gosh, it’s so funny. But yeah, he’s doing well. And it’s been so much fun to see, you know, how Brian and Noel, my son and daughter-in-law how they have changed their relationship has changed and how he has become, he’s become an amazing husband and father through all of these

Larry Broughton
02:26:12
He’s an amazing human, come on!

Dave Braun
02:26:13
He is. We know we always had a few physical issues and he’s just like taken over and does so much to support her. And he’s just, you know, he’s going to be an amazing dad. I wish, man I had an amazing dad too, but I wish everybody out there could have a dad like my son will be.

Larry Broughton
02:26:36
Oh man. He’s about to get teary. Yeah, I know. That’s awesome. Well, I just say, well, because I remember them from little guys, you know, another grown men. Amazing.

Dave Braun
02:26:47
I know. I know. So, yeah. That’s so I think that would be the learning on family is yeah. Counted as a blessing. And, but then realize when your family expands, you’re going to have to make a little bit of time for them some extra time. And that’s, and that’s a good thing. And you want to do that because you know, your family, your especially the, you know, your kids and stuff, they are going to, you know, be there when you’re gone, they’re carrying the torch to their next generation. So it’s a great time to be a mentor and a spiritual leader in their lives as well. Yeah.

Larry Broughton
02:27:19
Yeah. For me, a family, boy, a lot of mistakes in the last couple of years, as far as I’m concerned with my blood relatives, like my siblings, my parents passed away a long time ago. So my, my siblings living in another part of the country and frankly, I have isolated from them for the most part, not like a hermit and I don’t communicate, but not nearly enough or not here as I want to. So I’m committing And by the way, I don’t do resolutions. I’m just committed to making the commitment that I’m going to be more present in my family members lives in 2022 than I was at 2021.

Larry Broughton
02:28:00
And a big lesson in 2021 is that, as you had mentioned, when you really open your heart love is infinite. I remember the day that my daughter was born almost 21 years ago and my former spouse and I, I used to joke around with her is I didn’t think that I would be able to love this was like before my daughter was born, am I really going to be able to love her as much as I loved Madison, our dog, I loved our dog so much. I could not believe I was going to love a baby as much as I loved Madison. Yes. I know I’m a broken man, my friends,

Larry Broughton
02:28:40
But when I saw my daughter for the first time, I, I remember it was like how the Grinch stole Christmas. You know, when, when the Grinch’s heart moved by two sizes, I felt that day love is not a zero sum game. And so, and that’s true with family members as well. But I was having a conversation with my two kids over at dinner. The other night in 2022 will be a year of us building experiences together. Again, come hell or high water. We’re going to be doing more experiential things together. Right. And, and again, I’m opening up my heart to love in 2022 as well. So great, great. We’ll we’ll see what happens there. And our next one is friends, Dave, and this is where we’re wrapping up. This is the eighth span. So the eight spans of our whole health spider graph that has been transformative for a lot of folks that have been in our victory program is physical financial, professional, leisure, and fun, mental health, spiritual health, family health. And the last one is friends. So what have you learned about friends?

Dave Braun
02:29:43
I would say Larry, and this is one of the things that does spill over into other areas as well. If you create, I shouldn’t say create, create a community is definitely good and you want to do that, but also make sure that you are in community. We’re built to be in community, the be in community around these different areas, if at all possible, at least the ones that you’re struggling in. So like Larry, you, me and a couple of guys, we are in our own little community where we support each other, spiritually, physically, mentally, everything, right where we meet every Wednesday night. And the last couple of this month, we haven’t met a couple of times just because of the craziness going on, but we went a whole year and we, I think we missed just one time, but we are committed going 2022 to continue to meet every week.

Dave Braun
03:30:34
And so being in that community is such a source of strength and power and be in that community, being a community related to your business as well. You know, we have our victory in HireMyVA community, where we’re helping everybody, you know, grow their businesses. And in fact, Larry, we were talking about some of these things here about friends and financial. We’re helping everybody become better people. And, and, and so we’re doing that in our community. I’m in another community around my web design business and we just all recently had a best practices meeting that, that I facilitated on a new hosting platform that we went to. And so the power of that learning from each other, it accelerates your progress so fast. So be in community and, and of course, if you’re going to be in community, you’ve got to give, because if you’re going to get, you really have to give, do you have to give because you know, you give and then people will give back to you. And, and then what what will happen. I’ve been in communities where you don’t get anything back for a long time, and then it’s okay to, to exit for whatever reason. That’s right. So anyways, get into a community. That’s one of the habits, like a Keystone habit that spills into other areas, make sure that you are in community, around your business, around your spiritual life, whatever you’re want to make sure that you accelerate in and 2022.

Yes. So yeah, for me in the friends area, it’s kind of mimics a little bit of what, what yours does, Dave? I, I’m a terrible friend with the exception of a handful. Like you guys, Dave, I’m terrible. There are other people that I love and want to spend more time with. And I, you wouldn’t know it by the way I treat them, you know, like I’m, I’m embarrassed. You can say, I’ve got a text from two friends who reached out to me 36 hours ago separately, and I haven’t respond to their text yet to have just been so in the wheeze, how easy is it for me? I could have said, Hey, I’ll get back to you as soon. Great to hear from you. I haven’t even done that. I am so lame. So Scott and Scott, they’re both named Scott. If you’re seeing this, by the time you see this, all I’ve reached out, but I’m committed. As soon as we’re done on this, I’m going to respond to them. I’m just, it’s an area if I were to rate myself on the friend category right now, I’m probably a three or four in my life, and it’s not where I want to be. You know, it’s not where I want to be. So I’m, I’m committed to reaching out more, responding more frequently to text when people reach out, I’m just I’m lane. It’s probably the weakest area for me on the entire spider graph.

Dave Braun
03:33:24
One of the things that helps me in any area that I’m weak is I’ve, you know, folks, we’ve got to allocate a little bit of time to it. And, and, you know, Larry, there, we don’t have to respond right away to those types of things, but what we could do and what I want to get better at is I want to be able to, I want to be better at batching things. So in other words, I have my 60 minute or 90 minute focused time where I’m in, down in my tasks that I want to do building my business or whatever. Then I look up and see if I got text or stuff like that, you know, and we can use tools. And one thing that I’d love I want to do is use, you know, the phone tools to give a different ring or a text message from somebody who I do want to respond to like right away. Yeah. So I, I want to make those things a little bit easier for my life coming forward in 2022, I want to focus more because you know, our, our energy is limited. Yeah, it is. And I want to take the most advantage of it because I mean, I’ve only got so much, we’ve only got so much to, to use and I want to focus on what, you know, God wants me to do.

Larry Broughton
03:34:36
Me too. I want to be more better, Dave. Well better. All right. Well, those are the, those, the eight spans my friends. So if you are not a direction follower and you are a rebel and you didn’t listen to part one, as I’d asked you to do me a solid go back and listen to part one, it’ll make a whole lot more sense to you just to set up in the, in the very beginning. But the physical, the financial and the professional are, are important segments as well. So Dave, let’s wrap this baby up.

Dave Braun
03:35:12
Yeah, I think so. Well, everybody, you know, thank you again for joining us as we kind of put a wrap on 2021, and we’re looking forward to Larry, are you looking forward to 2022? A great friend, a high achiever is looking forward to what’s coming because there are so many opportunities out there. Dave, I was chuckling because I was flashing in my brain a year ago. I saw a social media meme that was a takeoff on fight club. And maybe remember this, what’s the number one rule in fight club. I don’t remember. We don’t talk about fight club. Oh, okay. Well the number one rule for 2022, don’t talk about 2021. Okay. So let, let’s put it in the rear view mirror. Let’s make 2022 fringing awesome. So friends, do yourself a favor. Do the world a favor and go do something significant today. All right, my friends. God bless you, God keep you and God hold you! All right. Let’s go get them. Let’s do the next one. Bye.

HireMyVA Podcast 26 Interview with Sara Lang 1

HireMyVA Podcast 26- Interview with Sara Lang

So today without further ado, we’re going to do something a little bit different. We had an interview, I did an interview with Sarah Lang a while ago. She’s a web agency owner and located in Ontario, Canada, and she’s been a friend we’ve helped her get a great VA, a little bit ago still with her today, did a great interview with her. And I learned, you know, several things from her and I’ve, you know, I’ve got a list here, but you know, one of the things that she did to prepare herself and she’ll talk about this is, is that she ended up just starting to do her processes, recording her processes. And we, and we talk about, that’s a huge side benefit of deciding to actually employ somebody to work on your team is that it kind of forces you to be, to grow up and be a real business. Right? Get your processes down.

HireMyVA Podcast 150 How to optimize your supply chain and inventory

HireMyVA Podcast 150- How to optimize your supply chain and inventory

In one of our Virtual spotlight session, Larry riffed on the answer to this question, and we thought afterward, that it was like so brilliant, it was great. The context that he talked about, and the added details was really, really valuable. So we just wanted to extract it and bring it to you. So one of these members is having supply chain issues and it’s really causing emissions cause they can’t fulfill client projects. The projects are getting delayed. Nobody’s happy. Right? So I’m sure nobody listening to this will ever experience that. But even if you aren’t experiencing it, listen up, and take some notes because you may have a friend or a buddy, or another company that you know of that is having those issues. And you can say, Hey, come listen to this episode. So again, this is a partial recording of one of the sessions. There were other thoughts and ideas on this that were shared and discussed.

HireMyVA Podcast 13 I just want to do my work and not worry about someone else 1

HireMyVA Podcast 13 – I just want to do my work and not worry about someone else

Can I be really honest on this? I think I can because this is our actual podcast, right? Reality is our friend. And so for those who have been on the journey with Dave and I, for some period of time, you know, I tend not to pull punches. I try to speak the truth, even when it hurts, I try to soften it a little bit. Sometimes it’s like an iron fist and a velvet glove. What Teddy Roosevelt used to like to say, but if that truly is your attitude, and I mean, truly, and you’re not just saying that as an excuse, then this isn’t the program for you. Then really freedom is not what you’re looking for. That’s an absolutely fear-based comment. You will not grow your business. You will not find the freedom that Dave and I are trying to offer, if you’re going to do everything by yourself. Dave, you’ve got this great comment on the board, over your shoulder there that says “control is an illusion”. If you think you’re going to control everything, you are nuts. The more you try to hold on tight to things, the less control you have of what’s really going on around you. And we can really dive down the rabbit hole with Alice in Wonderland or go through the matrix or whatever it is on this one. But truly, if you want to find freedom, you have to have team members, really strong team members.
