Folks welcome to the HireMyVA Team and Business Building Podcast, where we are helping you to reclaim your freedom through hiring and thriving with virtual assistants without breaking the bank. I am Dave Braun and I’m here with the one and only Larry Broughton.

Larry
00:00:26
Alright that’s enough. Hi Dave.

Dave
00:00:29
Hey, it’s good to see you again.

Larry
00:00:30
Been a long day. Obviously

Dave
00:00:33
You weren’t getting punchy. I’m getting hungry. I think we need to eat right or something. Yeah. All right. Well, folks have written in about bunches of topics. Here is another one. So, you know, they get a VA and they’re thinking, or they’re thinking about getting one in their concern that it’s like, they just won’t work as much as they probably should know that they’re just going to be half, you know, half-assed or whatever. Right. They’re just going to be, they’re just concerned. They won’t work enough

Larry
00:01:02
Yeah, I guess it’s, I guess it’s a legitimate concern, right? But it’s the same concern that you would have when you hire anybody, whether it’s a virtual assistant or someone that’s in your own office, let’s be honest about this. You know, when I hear stuff like this, it’s, this is a hiring challenge and it’s a leadership challenge. Jim Collins talks about getting the right people on the right seat on the bus. What he’s really talking about is making sure that people are working in their strengths and that they fit the organization as well. Right? One of the things that I’ve been talking about for years and keynotes and training sessions, and it’s just cut for those. Who’ve been through our mastermind programs, our coaching programs. So they hear me. They hear us talk about this all the time. I think we actually did a pocket teaching on this topic once on M.I.C. right?

Larry
00:01:44
What some people call it, MIC, some people call it mic and it’s motivation, integrity, and capacity, right? The way you find these right people is through the interviewing process. And we, and we give you in the program, a whole list of sample interview questions that help you flush this out. When you’re hiring somebody, you want to hire someone who is highly motivated. They want to be there. They’ve got the attitude. Like I get to go work with Dave today. Now I have to go work with Dave today. I get to get out of bed today, not, oh, I have to get up today. Right? And so we were going to help you hire people who are highly motivated. Now, oftentimes it’s better to find. It’s easier to find people who are motivated when they’re working in their strengths. We help you with that. The second thing is this integrity.

Larry
00:02:26
You want to have people who have tons of integrity, because some of the questions that we’ve addressed, Dave, in these podcasts before have been about integrity. They’re not going to work very hard. They’re going to steal from me. They’re going to take my intellectual property. He goes from what those are. Those are, those are integrity questions, right? You want someone who’s high in integrity because motivation without integrity is dangerous. You can have your highly motivated, but they lack integrity. That’s really super dangerous, right? And the third thing is capacity. Well, what the heck is capacity? Larry? Well, capacity is the ability to grow you. If you’re part of this program, you’re not hiring VA’s because you want to be the same. You want the status quo. You don’t want to be stagnant. You want to grow. And so what we encourage you to do, and we help you do is identify people who can grow and take on more responsibilities as you grow your organization.

Larry
00:03:17
Right? So mic motivation, integrity, and capacity are going to answer these things about that. They’re just not going to work very hard for you. But one of the things you would talk about all the time is if you want to do great things, you’ve got gotta be a great person. People are more likely to be motivated. If you’re a great leader and you’re an inspirational leader and you inspire them and you help them reach their fullest potential. So I’m going to flip again. And I do this all the time with you. You got to look in the mirror. How much of this is about you and not about the people that you’re hiring. And again, we help you become a better leader, a better manager, a better practitioner, a better business owner through this program. We’re about creating better entrepreneurs. And it’s just veiled in this hire my VA 2.0 program. Be honest with you. This is one element of it. So Dave, what? Say yee?

Dave
00:04:11
What? Say what? Say yee? I agree, Larry. All right. Let’s end the episode. Thank you very much. Yeah. And

Larry
00:04:20
I was trying to keep it rolling

Dave
00:04:22
No, I learned this from you, right? If, if it’s like you said, you got to have all three. And I think the way we draw it in the, you know, in the program is think about a Venn diagram where you’ve got three circles, one’s motivation, one’s integrity and one’s capacity. And they cross over you a Venn diagram where you’ve got to have that combination. And I think it’s important to, to realize that what happens if you don’t get one of those three, it’s just not going to go well for your business. It just won’t. And I love where you talked about looking in the mirror because you know, the leader, what the speed of the pack is the speed of the leader, right? And we’ve got to be displaying those, all of those characteristics ourselves, because if we’re not, then how do we expect our team to do the same?

Dave
00:05:10
And one of the things that I want to talk about was on the integrity front. A lot of times we think of that as only like being honest and trustworthy. And it is that, but I think it’s more than that, right? I think it’s where you’re integral. You’re consistent with your actions, because even if you have a high level of trust, our honesty and all that, if your folks that you’re working, that, that are working with you, if they are not consistent from client to client day to day, then you’re not going to be able to have a consistent product. You’re going to be going up and down. You’ll satisfy some clients, you won’t others. So there’s got to be that consistency that’s there.

Larry
00:05:53
And I’ll tell you, that’s one of the things that’s plugged my organizations from time to time. I’m just being really honest with you. Some clients get better service than others for personality reasons or whatever, or whatever. There’s a bunch of reasons, but this, that consistency is very, very, very important to them. Thanks for the reminder on that day.

Dave
00:06:14
Well, and I’m glad you said that. Thanks for the reminder, because we have to remind ourselves of these things as well, to be in us, remind them a reminder team members of that as well, that all of that stuff is important. And part of, you know, like capacity for example, is we’ve all got competitors. We’ve all got competitors that are pushing the envelope, wanting to, you know, kind of like eat our lunch. They want to take our clients potentially. Right? So if you don’t continue to work and step up your game, then it’s going to be harder for you to succeed as time goes. And you need capacity to do that. Not only in yourself, but in your team.

Larry
00:06:53
Yeah. Great points. Great points. Anything else Dave, on that,

Dave
00:06:58
The only other thing I’d say is this is all related to me. And we, we talked about so many different subjects. They all are interrelated. And a lot of it is like you said, if you want to do great things, you gotta be a great person. And it’s related also to hiring correctly. Yes. Yeah. Hiring right/

Larry
00:07:16
Hey, I beat this horse all the time and I’m going to encourage folks again, be involved in the community. Don’t be, don’t get sucked into this lone Wolf thing. I’m going to buy this program and I’m going to do it all on my own. You are only getting an, I, I think that majority of the value of this program is going to be in the community. Yes. Asking questions, participating, taking feedback from people. And so there’s plenty of places to leave or to ask questions. Part of it’s in the comment section where you found this, this video, others is actually going directly to the community and saying, Hey, I’ve got this problem or this question and this concern, what do you guys think about it? And let’s bat the bang back and back and forth on this. Dave and I are absolutely committed to building, you know, more entrepreneurs, more leaders, more business owners, more practitioners I’m blown away at how many people have dental practices, chiropractic offices, law firms, and CPAs who are barely getting by this. You know, and these are people who are professionals who can do, who could do so much better. We are committed to getting the government off our back and allowing people to find more freedom. And this is one simple, not always easy, simple way to do it. And that’s by hiring a VA.

Dave
00:08:32
Yeah, absolutely. Totally agree. Yeah. Good. Well, thanks for those last points. Anything else?

Larry
00:08:38
Nope. it that’s think I

HireMyVA Podcast 42- Interview with Joe DiChiara

Joe DeChiara: I’m a scientist, I look at results and then I try to work it back. So for years, I said, well, maybe I’m not growing because of my mark. So that’s how we met. I spent a long time to learn marketing and after eight years, it still wasn’t working. So I said, something is not working. And that’s when I reached out to you actually since something’s not working and I’ve got to figure out what it is and it was this, I was hiring the wrong people. I wasn’t training them and that was it.

HireMyVA Podcast 136 Hiring Process Checklist and Blueprint

HireMyVA Podcast 136- Hiring Process Checklist and Blueprint

The question is, what’s this hiring process checklist you have all about? I don’t know if you’ve ever seen this, but this is something that we have as a free download on our site. And it’s our VA hiring process checklist and blueprint. And of course, it is what it says it is.
It’s a checklist of things for you to consider when you’re gonna be hiring somebody. Now we’ve developed this hiring process checklist after years of victories and a few failures here and there. And the cool thing about it is like all of our tools. You can use it, not just for remote workers, but you can use it for people that you’re hiring for in-person as well. So it can be used for both categories and we want you to do that, but remember, if you want it, you need to opt-in at our site, but it’s free for you. And we walk you through it there as well. But we thought this episode, we’d walk you through this a little bit and show you how valuable it really is.

HireMyVA Podcast 146 Importance of Employee Benefits and What to Offer 1

HireMyVA Podcast 146- Importance of Employee Benefits and What to Offer

Once we realize that if we are hiring for motivation, integrity, and capacity, first, we’ve talked about this in previous podcasts, look for motivation, integrity, and capacity before you ever look for the experience, because you can train them on everything else. If you see somebody who’s got that, bring them into your organization because everyone wants to be on a winning team. So if you got a team of Rockstar and you start bringing in low performers, you’re gonna like—everyone’s gonna be bummed out by that. So I think we should start with that.
